Bacillus Megaterium is a phosphate solubilizing beneficial bacteria, which on reaching soil gets activated and produces fresh patches of active cells. Due to the immobilization of phosphate by mineral ions and organic acids, the rate of phosphate available in the soil is well below the plant’s needs. Phosphate solubilizing bacteria convert insoluble phosphatic compounds from the soil and by chemically added fertilizers into available form. The ability of these microbes to release organic acids and metabolize converts inorganic phosphorus into organic soluble phosphorus. This decreases the soil pH making it more suitable for plant growth.
